
Both Liszt and Rachmaninov established themselves in the history
of music as great composers and brilliant pianists. When writing
music for the piano they always tried to reveal an enormous potential
of the instrument. Robert Schumann once said about the Paganini
- Liszt etudes that "this may well be the most difficult of
all that has ever been written for piano"
